Global conquest

A couple of people asked about whether the Fabled Lands 2nd edition books would be available in Canada, and the answer is yes. You can order them for CDN$9.16 each, just search on Amazon.ca for "Fabled Lands 1: the War-Torn Kingdom" etc. And in Germany and France for 8.99 euros from Amazon.de and Amazon.fr respectively. I don't know about Australia and NZ yet, but we're looking into it.

  1. Ironically, it will probably end up cheaper for us Aussies to buy the books direct from the UK than through an Australian distributor.

  2. It may be marginally cheaper to buy them from the USA, in fact. I am hoping we can hook into southern hemisphere distribution networks eventually, and it is something our printers are talking about for mid-2011 - if you can wait that long :-)

  3. I hope the book will be available also on amazon.it for Italy, everything would be cheaper and much simplier... :)

  4. In theory it should be - though not there yet, I see.

The US postal service is hideously expensive when it comes to international mail. I now buy books from the UK as Royal Mail is now cheaper in their international postal rates than Australia Post is with its domestic rates. Doesn't make a lot of sense, but as far as my wallet is concerned it works.

I waited years to finish off my first edition FL collection (and am still missing titles in the Blood Sword series) - I can be patient and wait. :)

  6. If you can get them to http://www.bookdepository.com - that'll be great as they have free shipping world-wide. They're a UK-based company.

  7. And if you can distribute through the UK site Awesome Books (http://www.awesomebooks.com/), they are...well...awesome. They often have free shipping in the UK, US and parts of Europe, and very cheap postage elsewhere, including to Down Under Land. :)

  8. 2 days to Demeber 1st, and still only book 1 available for pre-order on amazon.co.uk, and still nothing on the italian one... Let's hope this laziness to update the site doesn't mean we'll have to wait so long to have the books in our hands! :)

  9. I'm afraid that's what the UK is like about everything, Kingfede. The US side of the print/distribution seems to be way more efficient. (Not to stereotype an entire nation, but I expect Amazon.de will be pretty efficient too.)

In other news, I just got a look at the character generation chapter of the upcoming Fabled Lands RPG by Shane Garvey and Jamie Wallis. It is looking state-of-the-art desirable.

  10. Hey Dave, are you involved in the creation of the FL RPG as well, or is it strictly the work of Greywood Publishing? Does Jamie even know about half of your announcements? :-)

  11. Hi Mike, I'm sure he does. Greywood are in the driving seat for the RPG, but Jamie W and Shane are running everything past me and Jamie T, so we're not totally hands-off.

Having said that, Greywood don't really need our input as they are doing a pretty amazing job of creating one of the best RPGs I've ever seen - simple enough that you don't get bogged down in rules details, but with enough breadth that players will still be finding it fresh after dozens or even hundreds of sessions.

  12. Just to let you know, Over the Blood-Dark Sea is listed at a price of $8.09 on Barnes and Noble's US website. I wouldn't want you to lose out on any money that can be used on the completion of the series. I believe that is an error and NOT a sale price.

  13. Well, Mike, Barnes & Noble and Amazon routinely discount books. That's their prerogative and it doesn't come out of our share. Publishers sell to the bookstores at a wholesale price and the bookstores then decide whether to charge the full RRP or not. If you ever see the books priced on Amazon or B&N at below $7.50, that's actually good news - it means they are shaving their margins down so as to compete for volume of sales. We'd be doing very well indeed if that happened.

  14. The other 3 titles are $8.99, I just found that strange that Book 3 would be 90 cents less. I ordered from Barnes and Noble anyhow. How long does it take for Amazon to bill your card? My order went through but I have still have the money (this was for something else though).

  15. Amazon don't bill until they ship; I think it's probably the same with B&N. This is important because the books are POD, meaning that on Amazon UK they are listed as "not in stock" - well, technically they never are in stock, as Amazon only order a copy for printing when a customer buys one. So I need to make it clear to UK readers that they should just go ahead and order - after Dec 1st, that order will immediately generate a copy that will be shipped as soon as it prints (normally within 6-10 days).
