Arachnophilia

No prizes for spotting where the image above comes from. Unfortunately, as the new paperback editions of the Fabled Lands books don't have the large format and fold-out cover flaps of the original books, this beautiful big mother got the chop. Unlike the notorious Lorna the Leprechaun, however, I cut her with a heavy heart.

  1. Isn't there even a chance for "deluxe" editions with such foldouts once you are working with that new publisher you hinted at?

  2. It's a printer, Alexander - we're still the publisher, but we're using Createspace, Amazon's own POD service, to print the books. And yes, I did look into doing a deluxe large-format edition collecting books 1-6 into a single volume, preferably using full-colour artwork from the forthcoming FL apps by Spirit Entertainment. However, I suspect that most FL readers would rather we spent the time on new material?

    1. Ah, wait, are you referring to the co-publishing deal I mentioned a while back? (There's so much going on here, it's hard to keep track of it.) That won't involve the FL books to begin with, but maybe later on.

    2. Ah yes, that co-publisher was what I asked about. Since you said that they will republish "everything", I was wondering whether that inculded FL as well.

    3. Okay, right - crossed wires. The tricky thing about rolling Fabled Lands into that co-publishing deal is that we have already republished the first 6 books ourselves, and we've licensed the digital rights to Spirit Entertainment. Spirit are doing a great job with the FL apps, and will likely be our developer of choice for the new venture too, but it does put the FL series outside that deal for the time being. But only for the time being.

    4. If things are as you describe, the possibility to see FL 7-12 books seems to depend mostly on FL itself... I hope both the edition of FL 5-6 and the new digital apps will help you to earn enough to continue the adventure: it would be wonderful to see some sort of alternation of FL new books, reprints of your old series and other new titles such as "Undeadwood"! I'm quite convinced the majority of your fans would give anything to see a project like this become real!

  3. I'll buy anything FL related you can throw at me, so release as many editions as you can.
And when the whole series is finished, put all of them in one huge hardcore book, atlas sized.
Maybe TASCHEN would be interested in printing that, they are used to printing 300$ books about every topic, art, comic sports, biographies...
    ;)
