Here's the moment when Jamie was briefly released from his pit to collect the
Roald Dahl Funny Prize on behalf of
Dirk Lloyd. No, no, I'm being silly. Jamie isn't kept in a pit, of course, he's kept in a tiny attic room like Bertha Rochester.
If you haven't done all your Christmas shopping, there's still time to get a copy of Dirk's first and second books, and Jamie is already at work on the third. Also, next year we'll be releasing Jamie's and my new series Starship Captain (more by Jamie than me, you'll be pleased to know) which boldly goes to places just as hilarious.
I should have said btw that the willowy blonde (aka Scrawny Earth Girl) beside Jamie is not his wife, but Freya Hartas (daughter of Leo), who drew the illustrations for the Dirk books - though not (unfortunately) the covers.

Thanks, Ikaros. It really is one of the funniest books I've ever read - and by funny I mean "laugh out loud" not just "smile knowingly". Although nominally for children, adults will enjoy it just as much.
DeleteWell done Jamie and Freya, for an award well deserved.
