A traveller from an antique land

Fabled Lands LLP is undertaking to bring back into print all the gamebooks in the ‘80s and ‘90s written by me, Oliver Johnson, Jamie and Mark Smith. There’s about three dozen of them in all, and none of us have Jovian parentage, so it won’t be accomplished overnight. But in the course of the next six months you should at least see my four Virtual Reality books and another old-time gamebook series that we can't talk about yet, but that will also include a new prequel and maybe a new sequel that I have been specifically asked to note is not licensed to Fabled Lands LLP, so in other words we'll publish the old paperbacks of those but not the new books, if there are any. Hope that's completely clear.

This week, as an amuse-bouche to that feast of gamebook awesomeness, we’re releasing Oliver Johnson’s Curse of the Pharaoh. This has been out-of-print for over two decades. It was originally published in the Golden Dragon series, which also included Eye of the Dragon (which, judging by Mrs Giggles's uncompromising review there, I had better do some revision work on!) and The Lord of Shadow Keep. Egyptology is one of Oliver’s hobbies, so you can expect something a little bit more authentic than the usual mummy’s curse adventure.

Curse of the Pharaoh is on sale on Amazon now. And, if you played and enjoyed it back in the day, please go on over and give it a review. The only way we can keep doing these books is if the wider world starts to take notice of them, and there’s no better way to achieve that than by word of mouth.

    Amazing, guys.

See, I possess all the original editions, so it's a bit hard for me to justify buying these reprints... but I think I'll do it anyway :-)

    1. You don't have to do that, Efrem, but if you could leave a review on Amazon then we'd really appreciate it.

  3. I hope this new edition will be the occasion for a lot of fans to catch volumes they could have lost when they got printed for the first time, just like myself (I have only the Italian edition). Nevertheless, I still think the real boost would be something entirely new...

    1. Anyways, I just posted a little review on amazon.it, the book is not available there for the moment but I expect it will be in a couple of days, or even less, just as usual.

    2. Thanks for that. As for new stuff... there will be at least one new book coming up by next spring in a famous "classic" gamebook series, and Ashton Saylor will hopefully be taking on Jamie's Western gamebook The Good, the Bad & the Undead. Watch, as they say, this space.

  4. Quite pleased to know that the Golden Dragon series is being re-published along with the other series. Hardback collector's editions of books from the other series would be great. Crossing my fingers for new editions of Blood Sword!! Mine are in tatters and I was never able to track down the last book. Any new material would be awesome!

    1. I'm getting some plans for Blood Sword under way right now, Jeremy. Those won't come to fruition until next year, but if they are successful you'll be able to get full-color hardback editions of all five books.

  5. Will it be possible to get it from any other shop other than Amazon?

    1. Some of them could in theory appear in physical bookstores thanks to Createspace's extended distribution network, but you can't rely on that. (Createspace is the printing company we use for most of our books now.) Try Createspace's own online store: https://www.createspace.com/4361917
