Ankon-Konu no longer inconnu

I wasn't going to post full images of the new artwork Russ Nicholson has been doing for The Serpent King's Domain on the grounds that the backers of the Kickstarter campaign ought to see it first. But now that it's gone up on the project's Kickstarter page, the cat is out of the bag so here are a couple of illustrations. For the rest, just hit that KS link.

  1. Great artwork! I'm looking forward to book 7!

On a separate note: I am sure I am not the first one to ask this, but now with FL 7 coming out, is there any chance that you will release the FL series in its original fold out format again? Or, do you or Jamie or anyone at Megara or MacMillan have spare copies of the original 1995/6 series that I could purchase? I read the original FL series in my early teens and the books got lost along the way. I have ordered the reprints, but, while the content is still awesome, the paper and design feels really cheap compared to the originals. I saw that you are publishing some of the FL books in the large format with a color map on the backcover, but that will hardly satisfy my and others' nostalgic cravings ;) I'm not the first one to say this, but the FL series deserves another reprint in its original, beautiful style. My feeling is that people are more likely to buy and get hooked by a much nicer and more expensive version of FL. The FL series is unique and offers the reader so much more than the usual game book. I think in its original high quality design each book should be priced at $17.99 at least. Anyway, otherwise, I guess I might be able to find some used copies of the original FL books on ebay or amazon maybe...

    1. I like the original Pan editions, but there's not currently any way to offer books with French flaps via print on demand. As for the quality - it's true, POD isn't at the level you can get from a full print run, but it keeps improving.

  2. Btw I just heard from Paul Gresty that The Serpent King's Domain is up to 925 paragraphs and counting. So after the long wait, prepare to land a monster!

  3. Side question:
What do you think of "Choice of the Petal Throne"?

    1. I haven't played it, but I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has.

    2. Unfortunately I wouldn't know if it was any good because I have no experience with Empire of the Petal Throne. Want to give it a try? I'd trust your judgement on whether it's a good representation of the setting.

    3. My preferred version of Tekumel is quite low-key, social, folkloric, revolving around questions of honour. That's not the only take on the material. Some campaigns focus on dimension-hopping science fantasy and alien scheming. There's no One True Way; Prof Barker advised players to create their own Tekumel. But you can get a sense of mine from the Eye of All-Seeing Wonder fanzines -- see the link in the sidebar.
