Martin McKenna

Martin McKenna has died at the age of 51, and it's a loss not only to his friends and colleagues but to everyone who appreciates the work of a master craftsman with a matchless imagination. There's too much to say here, just now when the shock is still raw, so I'll pass you over to my wife's newsletter in which she describes how we heard the sad news and an account by Martin himself from happier days.

  2. I recognised the name from Fighting Fantasy, but wouldn't have been able to say whether he was an author or an artist... googled his art and yes, wow, he was absolutely iconic for that series, shoulder to shoulder with Russ Nicholson.

One of his illustrations I remember very vividly from my childhood is the incredibly creepy illusion/truth reveal of the Mandrake in human form at the mouth of the alleyway in Legend of the Shadows Warriors:

R.I.P. to a great artist, and condolences to you and Roz for the loss of a friend, Dave.

  3. I'm sorry to hear that. I too associated his name with FF as an artist but didn't know his particular works. Very talented. I didn't realise the cover of A Minotaur At The Savoy was his work until now, which is beyond superb. RIP.
