Blood Sword comes to the PC

This is the most exciting news all year for me, and the culmination of a dream. The first fully playable demo for Blood Sword CRPG is released today on Steam. The fact that it's by Victor Atanasov at Prime Games (who also created the Fabled Lands CRPG) told me all along that it would be brilliant. The only question is how brilliant, and now we can all judge that for ourselves.

Victor drew on both Blood Sword and Dragon Warriors for the tactical elements, but if you've been following his design masterclasses on Steam then you'll already know that there's a lot more to the PC version than that. Still, enough talk -- you can take up the quest for yourself. Will the machinations of the Magi bring about a poisoned future, or will your band of heroes successfully wield the Sword of Life to defeat them? Find out right here.

    1. Thanks! The playthrough on Steam showed how much fun the combats and skill progression are -- and for once it was a playthrough by somebody who could actually read well and put some emotion into the various character parts. I'm lucky to have a developer of the quality of Prime Games on the job!

  2. I am so stoked for this. Just need to finish the original books before the full computer version comes out so I can say I did the books first. I've only got Walls of Spyte left to go!

    1. Nearly there, Luke -- though that might be the toughest of the lot!

  3. That's a great Demo! I like the combat and skills approach.

I note that it starts from the Kingdom of Wyrd rather than the Battlepits of Krarth, which makes sense since Battlepits always seemed more of a standalone adventure, even if it did introduce Icon the Ungodly.

I'm slightly surprised by how much of the events I can remember almost verbatim, nearly forty years later...

    1. Prime Games also drew on my Chronicles of the Magi novellas, which rejigged the story to begin with the events at the camp at the start of BS book 2, then the Battlepits, then Wyrd. As for which order they come in the finished game -- we'll have to wait and see...
