Illustrations with nonhuman help

Here are some illustrations I made back in 1978 for my Victorian-era D&D campaign:



You see why I didn't try for a career at Marvel Comics. When I wrote a post about that campaign, I wanted some artwork to go with it but these pictures are no better than what most parents of young children have stuck to the front of their fridge.

So I asked Copilot to help out, and it gave me these enhanced versions:



Now some people will gnash their teeth at the sight of AI-created art. "You've put an artist out of work!" they'll say. But here is a case where a human artist (although not a very good one) did a whole lot of work. Those pictures probably took me a couple of hours at least. OK, so the version I put on the blog was Copilot's re-rendering of the pictures, but I hadn't skimped on the work -- in fact, I spent another half-hour coaxing these two images out of Copilot. The end result is much more decorative than my efforts, and those who care about such things can comfort themselves with the knowledge that an actual person had to go through all the agonies of artistic creation.
