Fabled Lands at #1

More news about the Kickstarter being run by Megara Entertainment (based in France) to create a new Fabled Lands book. We could already see the campaign was going great guns (already at 340% of its intial target as I write this) but now Richard S Hetley, who planned and is running the campaign for Megara, tells me that it is the top-rated project originating in France that's running on Kickstarter at the moment. Not near the top, right there in pole position. Formidable!

The campaign may have attained its initial target (within 45 minutes of launch, as a matter of fact) but when you're climbing the mountain of launching an all-new book from scratch, every pledge counts. More money raised means the book can have more artwork and more story content, some of it in the form of personalized locations and characters.

Personally I'm hoping for a full triptych painting by internationally renowned movie concept artist Kevin Jenkins (see below) as well as maps and interior illustrations by Russ Nicholson (who else?). And a high enough final figure means that Jamie and I can seriously reopen the possibility of completing the series. Want to see that happen? You can pledge here.

  1. :) It is quite interesting to read about the original post few years ago and rather heart warming that it is doing so well, even above my and I expect quite few people's original expectation.

    1. Certainly it's good to see that there are still several hundred people out there who are interested in a new FL book. And Richard Hetley's "art meter" has been invaluable in showing everyone how their money will be spent. It looks like there will only be four or five full-page illustrations, but that's better than none. And there could yet be a late surge that will allow much more artwork than Megara were expecting.

  2. You tease! Dropping into the end of your article that you and Jamie might consider completing the series – if only that was one of the official Pledge Levels…

    1. I suppose it's stating the bleedin' obvious if the KS succeeds well enough. Although we have to remember this is still only a few hundred readers. The question now is whether we can mobilize that core of devoted interest to spread the word to new players.

  4. If you have several hundred readers willing to pledge around Eur 50 each, wouldn't that imply that there would be a wider market for the finished books at a lower retail price? Even if that's not the case, it's clear there is a market prepared to pay to bring books 8 - 12 into existence. I would happily pledge now if you were to run the kickstarters for them. Also (and this is just personal preference) if it's a choice between having the artwork but not having later books, or not having the artwork but the series being completed, I would be strong in favour of dropping the drawings. My view has always been that this series was made by the quality of the writing, that is the must have; next to this the artwork is just a nice to have.
