The shape of the universe

Have a guess what this is. Give up? Okay, it's the flowchart for Fabled Lands book one: The War Torn Kingdom. It was created by Spirit Entertainment, the company who are currently adapting the first six FL books for Android, browsers and (we hope) Kindle. These titles are scheduled for next Easter and, as soon as I can get the nod from Spirit supremo Steve Iles, I'll unveil some of the stupendous artwork his team have been creating. I promise you, you'll be blown away.

While you're waiting, here's something to keep your gamebook muscles exercised. Christmas is upon us and, just like last year, we have a little gift for you. Come back tomorrow and all will be revealed. But don't get too distracted by turkey and mince pies, because it's for a very limited time only. By Boxing Day it'll just be a melted puddle...

  1. Is that a picture of Venefax? It looks awesome!

  2. Yeah, that's gotta be Venefax. Looks great!

I like how you arranged the flowchart geographically, with all the sea entries in light blue, the Isle of Druids to the east...:)

  3. I can't take any credit, John - it's all those smart guys at Spirit Entertainment.

Tim, I wish I could show you more of the artwork that Spirit have done. That little peek at Venefax is only the tip of the iceberg.

  4. Well, you know...I meant "you" collectively to refer to everyone who had worked at making that image. ;)

  5. Do you have a high resolution version of the flowchart? I'd love to take a look at it, if it's not any trouble.

  6. I don't have it at higher res, sorry, Porpy. But you could get in touch with the developers: http://spirit-entgroup.com

  7. Since I don't have any kind of mobile device except an mp3 player I won't play or buy any of this. Sadly.
But I'd buy the print version, even if it was just one of those cheap books from something like www.bod.com you can publish for a fixed price of about 40€

  8. Spirit will be creating a browser version too, Golem, so you won't need a mobile device to play.

  9. Btw the print versions of FL books 1-4 are already available, and for a lot less than 40 euros. They're on Amazon.

    1. The 40€ is for the publishing of the book online and in every german bookstore, not what the reader has to pay :)
I think you can even publish it only online for free, but I don't know if you get any money from it then.

  10. Will this new artwork be used in the iOS apps too?

  11. They're by different developers, Tim. The other apps were by Megara Entertainment (see earlier posts) and these will be by Spirit.

  12. A Kindle version of the books would be great.
Please make sure, that it will also be available in Europe (Especially Germany :) )

  13. We're somewhat at the mercy of Amazon, as we need to wait for them to roll out active content on Kindle outside the US. As soon as they do, we hope to have Kindle versions available throughout Europe.
